The TCA Band returned in 2018 after a long hiatus. Director of Bands Joshua M. Sanfilippo has great aspirations for the program. Although starting small, the band has continued to grow over the past few years, with almost a dozen students in middle school alone.
At TCA, students are taught to cultivate their God-given musical gifts, but the education does not stop at performance pedagogy. Several students stay after school once a week for Musicology Club, where they study Music Theory, Historical Musicology, and Ethnomusicology.
Although the TCA Band Program currently consists of only Middle and High School Concert Bands, with the future growth of membership, Director Joshua M. Sanfilippo plans to one day revive the Eagle Band, TCA’s Award-Winning Marching/Pep Band.
Joshua M. Sanfilippo earned his Bachelors of Music in Music Theory from Stetson University in 2017. While there, he studied euphonium under Tom Waid and David Schmidt, studied Music Theory under Noel Painter and Peter Smucker, and took composition lessons from Manuel de Murga and keyboarding lessons from Boyd Jones. He has been playing euphonium and baritone horn since 2006, having been a member of the award-winning Flagler Palm Coast High School Band under the direction of John Seth and a member of the distinguished Stetson University Symphonic Band under the direction of Douglas L. Phillips.
